what is left to stop site ranking better than 301st?
Term is not highly competitive.

I have similar problem, for phrase "word1 word2" I'm in 40-50, for single word1 word2 searches I'm top 10, also for allinachor and others.

Phrase is pretty competitive, but it is not English.

Only solution as far as I know - wait :(

I agree, I have a new site that is in the same situation. Ranks wonderfully for all of the allin's but not so go with just the term. I also think it is something that has to be waited out. How old is your site?

Same situation here for 2 month old site. Could be something to do with the sandbox effect, I guess. Waiting is all I can do!

You are all expecting those allin searches to return more information than google tells you that it returns.

Nowhere does google claim that any of those searches rank you only on what you are asking them to limit the search to.

Do a search of the web on any of those commands, and just about every result will be a "why doesn't allintitle: work right?" posts. The answer is that it works right, it just doesn't necessarily work the way that you think that it works.

If the site is new, chances are it is sandboxed [webmasterworld.com].

Pages can rank high with the allin operators but fail to score in the regular results for a period of 90-120 days.

Yup sounds like sandboxing to me. If you bought any site wides links with at least 50 pages that wil definitely sandbox you. I haven't figured out if you can trigger the sandbox buy getting new links from X number of websites and no sitewides. Any data you can share?

i may be seeing the light now...

i have been stuck at position 90 for a word1 word2 kw term for 3 months.

my site used to rank well for this term until google picked up my shop.store.yahoo.com url as well as my www.domain.com url (the content ends up being identical, just another way to get to my site..) we added some redirects and the shop.store.yahoo.com domain went away in the serps and the duplicate content penalty stopped, but backlinks from our shop.store.yahoo.com site were still showing up for our www.domain.com backlinks search up until last week.

maybe we were being penalized for having 50 backlinks from this identical site with a different domain name..? i am hoping this is the case, we will see..

we should be in the top 3 for this kw term but for some reason are stuck around position 90..

any comments?

My site also ranks 301 for my chosen "keyword1 keyword2", I have just tried allinanchor, allintitle and allintext where I come up 7th. The sites been up a year, I have PR4 and lots of back links - could there be some other penalty on my site?

I have very high keyword density on one page of my site becuase it is a list of articles titled "subjectkeyword keyword1 keyword2" could this be a problem

i am 1 for allinanchor etc with many pages for over a year. 90% of them still rank bad in the actual serps, seems to be a different algo, i dont think it is a penalty

I had a similar problem quite a few months back.
Was #1 for allinanchor, text and url but nowhere on the serps.
I began varying my anchor texts on my links and began gaining links to my subdomains also. This brought my site right up the rankings but is still short of being right where i believe it should rank for key terms.
I believe it is a combination of allinanchor and the number of overall links you have

Re sandboxing with external links
When i started to link build i added 50 or so backlinks very quickly....the rankings went from good page 1 or 2 down to pages 4 or 5.
The back link text was carefully chosen so that it was not an exact copy of the sites main key word combinations.
Since then i have
a. continued to vary the text on new back links
b. moved from 1 large links page to many small links pages.
c. Gradually building more text into the links pages
d. Increased substantially the number of internal pages.

Am back to page 1 now...but it took 4 months

and still not convinced i am completely free of the penalty G applied
