Tricky PR0 Question

A friend who is requesting a link has created a site that is 100% graphics; has no title tag; no descriptions tag; and no text of any kind for a spider to eat, BUT it has 500+ good links pointing to it, as reported by ATW.

Google shows PR0, and when you search on the domain name, Google says "No info."

So, here's the question...

Does this mean this site BANNED/Penalized/etc, or is there simply nothing there to index?

It should show some info.Is it only a 1 page site?has it always been pr0?
There is a recent problem for some sites to show no info and and to have lost the pr of the home page but still not be penalised.
You would need to know the history of the site to give any educated guess imo.

It's about 4 pages, and the site is around a year old --long enough the acquire 500+ natural inbounds.

When I originally posted this message I thought her problem was that she had no text to index and no titles, etc, but now I see what her MAIN problem is...over the last year or so, 14 of the 30 domains she links to on her links page have been taken over by PR0 link farms.

Man, am I depressed...this girl is fairly famous, which is where the 500 inbounds came from, and she is so proud of the fact that she taught herself how to build her own site. This is going to be a killer to break the news to her.

jk3210, my pure guess is that there might be more hidden problems with her site than you have discovered.

500+ natural(?) inbound links in over a year and her site has about 4 pages, that's average 1 or 2 link per day...she is fairly famous, but back to reality -Would that be possible? That would be the first think that I will put a question mark (?).

>>> but now I see what her MAIN problem is...over the last year or so, 14 of the 30 domains she links to on her links page have been taken over by PR0 link farms.

If that were to be her main problem, it is because she has the habit of linking to "CHEAP" sites that do not have any solid business background. Because they are cheap, they were easily taken over by PR0 link farms. This also gives good hints about her site's strategy.

>>> she is so proud of the fact that she taught herself how to build her own site.

IMHO, I think her strategy is wrong since the beginning.

Congrats, Jenna :) Tell her I said Hello.

I doubt the spammy backlinks are a problem. I would put some title tags on the pages.

If she finds the time, some ALT tags in the images and titles for the links could work wonders.

She won a couple of national contests and on first check it appeared that most of her links were from news orgs reporting on her wins. BUT, on second inspection, I see that ATW is reporting a mix of news orgs and el crappo stuff, AND they are only showing a total of "20 of 500" so I'm not sure what the deal is on the other 480. All link farm stuff maybe?

>>Congrats, Jenna :) Tell her I said Hello.<<

Excellent guess, but unfortunately, wrong. ;) This girl is more along the lines of (R) as opposed to (X).

Normally, I wouldn't give this thing another thought, but she worked so hard to learn this web stuff that it's going to crush her to hear "your site is banned."

She really only wanted a link to her email address, so I've given her a js email link, and I'm hoping that if I get nailed, it will only be on the page that contains her email address.

Anyone know if Google counts email address links like regular links? I wouldn't think so.

Just tell her to remove the links to the PR0 pages and the site will probably recover within a few updates.

I think the fact that this forum doesnt allow you to see the site doesnt help...we sit here and guess
but by guessing cant you look to see if the google pr bar is grey which means banned?

The entire site is white barred. And yes, I'll have to break the news to her about the links.

I'm really not looking forward to giving a very sweet young novice webmaster the "welcome to the real world" speech that starts off "your site is banned in Google and Yahoo."

Even though it will help her in the long run, I don't think that's how she'll take it.

It's like when you were a kid and they said "this Polio shot is going to help you," then they stabbed you in the arm with that railroad spike.

Oh well, what are friends for, right?
