I just found something I have never seen before, while searching for allinurl:www.mysite.com I am getting back nearly 2,000 results - the strange thing is, my website is only about 500 pages. Closer examination is showing a few things I don't recognize. Many of the results are results of other search engines, with urls like:

[example.com...] websearch.asp?keywords=www.mysite.com

Clicking the result brings you to a netster search page which does not have my website or url on the page.

I have noticed lately while searching for topic I am doing research on that I am getting more and more of these types of pages, where the results are netster affiliate pages that perform a search for whatever keywords I was searching for on Google, often times the title and description in the serps are misleading.

Maybe the new google is going to be a search engine search engine? j/k

The other strange allinurl thing is that results are being returned for any page that links to www.mysite.com but does not have www.mysite.com in it's url at all.

My only guess is that google is changing this so that webmasters cannot easily see how many pages they have indexed. I'm sure my opinion on this will not be very popular here but personally I would think it would be in their best interest to hide this type of info from webmasters along with allinanchor, PR green bar and backlink searches. These types of searches do not benefit Joe Searcher, only webmasters who obviously use them to track their progress getting google position.

I'm wondering if this is something new or just something I have not seen before.

allinurl: command is yielding a list of all sites that link to a site, in addition to pages that are "in url".

Anybody else seeing this or is google only freaking out on me?

Me too! I'am sure it never used to do that!

Its actually also showing some pages that contain the url in plain text without links!
