Odd Google Search Behavior: Results Page do a Double Take?

Hi folks:

Hi have a strange quirk going on with recent Google search results, using Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP:

When I enter a keyword specific for our industry, Google shows 2 search result pages in quick succession.

The first page appears for just a fraction of a second... I can make out a few of the results, and then another page appears with different results.

What's frustrating is that this 2nd results page has bogus rankings for the keywords. I can verify this using various google ranking tools.

The first page that flashes for an instant seems to have correct results, and sometimes if I click the Google search button enough times, the results page with correct rankings will appear.

I suspect this is an Internet Explorer issue, as Netscape 6.1 on the same PC brings up the correct search results the first time and every time.

I tried to clear all the IE temporary internet files, index.dat files, cookies...but it made no difference.

I also reinstalled a newer version of IE (SP1) but that does not clear the "double take" problem with Google searches.

I have also used Spybot tool to search for any kind of spyware/virus stuff, but everything seems to be OK.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?

You help and suggestions appreciated!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld CaptainJoe.

Sounds like you have an unwanted passenger. Try "The Cleaner", "Adaware", or your other adware/spyware cleaners. (sometimes they don't show up without a reboot)

It could be that you are infected with one of many variants of Cool Web Search malware. Do a search for CWShredder.
