I hope this hasn't been mentioned, and I also hope this isn't some weird cookie thing, but:

I can not get google to do the link around the word to click to dictionary.com for the definition. (eg: my favorite google feature...)

This used to present a link under House to Dictionary.com for the definition:

[google.com...]

hmm - got none here. Must be ip tagged. That's strange. Browser doesn't matter, but switching ip's and it is there.

Doesn't work for me either which is sucky, as I tend to use the dictionary a lot.. and Safari only lets you search Google from its toolbar! I'll have to dig out a Konfabulator widget that can do dictionary searches :-)

Works for me. And I've just tried several times.

Could it be a bodged attempt to show it for users in some countries but not others? (as we all know that Google isn't very good at working out the country from the IP address)

It's not around the word anymore. It's a separate link next to the word.

Results 1 - 100 of about 17,100,000 English pages for house [definition]. (0.44 seconds)

[google.com...]

Tip: Click to get a definition of: doctor
Or just click on the underlined words in the above colored bar

Leads to: [dictionary.reference.com...]

Works fine here. You have to search for definition:widget

Could it be that the backend server producing the definition data just isn't quick enough sometimes, so the link is left out of the page by the frontend server?

I see it now (didn't earlier in this thread).
