I have a site that was very prominent for a specific keyphrase in Google for all results for about a year. However approximately three months ago the site disappeared from these results but remains highly ranked if I make the search country specific.
I have checked other sites which are listed below us in the country specific results for a particular keyphrase and they are listed in the world results for that keyphrase when the site I work for isn't.
I would like to know how this is possible?
I did have a theory that a site which also ranks in the country specific results may have got the site I work for penalised as they have used similar keywords including our site name (virtually copied the majority of it). However if we were penalised then the site would not be in the index at all right?
Also two days ago I did a search for this particular keyphrase and the site was back in on page 2 but since then Google's results have reverted back to how they have been for the last month and the site has vanished.
How could this have occurred?
I appreciate any responses that can assist me to understand on how this is occurring.
