Hello,

the last google PR update boosted my homepage's PR to 5 (from 4), the PR of each subpage to 4 (from 3). Although the PR increased my site's PR, they at the moment are ranking by far worse than before. Is this quite normal or what? I didn't change anything regarding the site.

Well, the rest of the site probably "inched" up in PR (like 3.5 or 4.25..etc).

Best way to tell? Did your referrals from Google increase?

This same exact thing has happened to me! My site went from a PR 5 to a 7 in the last update, and traffic actually went down! As a matter of fact, I had more Google traffic at PR 0 than PR 7. What sense does this make?

It's often times quite simple.

If you have 294 links from PR1-5 pages of different domains to your PR5 index page and all of the sudden 40% of them remove your link (it's because you removed the free download section of those Paris Hilton videos) but one guy links to you from his PR8 page exlaining about how much he used to like downloading all of the hotel heiresses' new flicks and how his visitors should go there and request that you put them back up you may end up with a PR7 now.

That does not mean your rankings should improve. Is his link even relevant? Perhaps. We're the majority of the 40% you lost more relevant? Perhaps.

There are many factors to consider. I'm surprised you haven't received lots of replies explaining how "my PR4 site beats PR7's and 8's all day long for competitive serps...".

I'd suggest taking some time to analyze why the PR increased and how your total backlink package is looking.

BTW, the P. Hilton examples were just that, examples.

PR is not everything guys. You get a link from PR 10 site and your PR will be phenominal too but this doesn't ensure that your ranking will soar. Accumlate more quality links and do consider other optimization requirements and you'll get what you want.
