Hi, I've seen a huge drop in GoogleBot visits on my sites.

From hundreds of visits in May and before, I'm seeing little to no activity now in June from Googlebot.

Anyone else?

i've seen a drop too, though not down to zero. my googlebot activity has dropped by around half.

my suspicion is that it is related to the pr update of a couple of weeks ago. googlebot visits high pr sites more than lesser pr sites. we went from a pr 6 to a pr 5, so that may explain our fall off in googlebot visits.

have you seen a drop in your pr?

Actually, my sites kept the same PR, but i'm only seeing a little of GoogleBot visits on PR6 sites, but around 2 to 3% of what it used to be.

In the last update i only lost some backward links, could this be the reason?

Anyway, it's pretty weird.

Could be because Google is full :)

Can also confirm a 50% drop with the last PR update. Even if your PR doesn't drop - the green bar is such a rough figure that it's not reliable enough to know whether you're a high PR6 or low.

We have noticed shallow spidering, just skirting around a few files, but no deep crawls.

Same here for the past 2 to 3 weeks. Googlebot will visit 50 to 150 pages and leave. Previous visits would grab 2 to 3 thousand pages at a time. Also noticed that many of our pages are showing with no title and no description. Probably related to reduced Gbot activity.

We have seen steady, daily GoogleBot traffic (actually seeing a major drop off during May). One interesting note: while the normal user-agent signature contains a link to the google page describing the spider, referrer like:

"Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.google.com/bot.html)"

we have seen another that is just

"GoogleBot/2.1"

(Note uppercase/lowercase B in Bot if you're grepping your logs :). WHOIS both indicates these are from legit Google IPs. The one without the URL is sporadic and has come just several times over the last few weeks; the "normal" one has been regular this month.

Probably someone knows the difference between these two.

I am seeing the opposite behavior on my sites. On average, I get about 3000-4000 GoogleBot requests for pages each day between 4-5 sites.

Same here. I have noticed a decrease by almost 75% for most of the sites I monitor. Several of them are 7 PRs and none are below 5 PR.
