Ok - the theory is that if your site is hosted in the uk, even if it is a .com , that google.co.uk will see it as a uk site.

Now, what if the nameserver for the site is on an ip associated with an american company, but it points to a uk ip address (where the site is actually hosted)?

Will google.co.uk see this .com site as a "site from the uk" or a site NOT from the uk?

AFAICS the IP of the server itself is what counts. I doubt anyone will go to the trouble of tracing the authoritative DNS server and it's location.

Do you see this as a problem? The only difference from google's POV is that searchers in the UK will find your site with the option "Show sites from the UK" (or whatever) as well, which may bring a few more hits.

I've got a .com hosted on a UK IP address but it's DNS servers are in the US. My site apears just fine in the .co.uk restricted results as well as the .com results. Hope that helps.

I've not seen any evidence that the DNS provider affects Google's location system in any way.

As long as your UK IP is correctly identified, you should be OK, although you might be better served by a .uk domain name if you are mostly targeting UK visitors.

Thanks guys

My site will be for both uk and usa visitors, but i feel that a .co.uk may put some us users off, and they are the larger proportion of my visitors, so i feel a .com is more appropriate.

Appreciate your help on this one,

Cheers.
