Losing Indexed Pages In Google

Google Losing Pages

I'm going to provide as much information as I can, because I'm baffled as to what is going on with one of my sites. It has been up for over a year and held the number one positions for two of my main keywords. The May update totally crushed this site. It went from over 300 quality themed backlinks down to 30. Also, over the past few weeks I have seen my indexed pages decrease from 19,000 to just over 500! The 2 number one positions I held have been dropped to +200.

I'm really concerned with this site, because I spent over six months developing the content and had just added 4,000 pages of new content the end of May to beef it up. So, what do you guys think? Have I incurred some kind of penalty or has Google just lost data. Anyone had a similar experience?

I lost backlinks and a quite a few pages too, (they show just as the URL) but Google has been busy today so I'm hoping they will be restored in a few days. It has happened before, only to come back in days. The link only is just a matter of being indexed on a regular basis I think.

As far as the backlinks, I've seen many complaints this time. It didn't seem complete, more like something went wrong. Time will tell.

Is googlebot spidering your site? If not, you might be in trouble.

Envision -- we're praying that it's just a temporary loss, since the same thing seems to have happened to us. Googlebot is coming around, but all but a few of our links show in the "site:" command as plain URLs, no title/desc, and many of our links are just not in the index at all.

One other point: there was some talk about backlinks being spread out more evenly than they have in the past. I am not sure if this means the links: command is just not displaying them all, or whether they are not being considered at all.

Walkman -
The only consolation I have is that Googlebot has pulled over 7,000 pages from my site this month. Hopefully, that is an indication that it was just a glitch and things will be back to normal with the next update. Now, the only problem is waiting the 4 weeks to find out!

if Googlebot is visiting, I doubt you're marked for "death" but I don't know for sure. It just makes sense.
