I have always been under the impression that a site needs to have a pr4 to register as a backlink ... I have recently launched a brand new site and I have one backlink from a site with a PR3 - Can anyone explain this?

Bad news, I can't give it to you because it was in the past. In fact it was over a year ago. But each time I saw it, I looked into it, and at least three times it was one of my own pages, so I was very familiar with it.

I also won't have any current examples, because I only check my own Toolbar PR about every three months, and I just don't care what other people's TPR is. It's not worth the hassle of opening IE to find out things that I am not interested in.

What the heck are you doing all that research for on something that doesn't matter? Seriously, the results of the link: command make no difference in the SERPs.

I've seen PR3 backlinks show that weren't dynamic. Not now, they're PR4 by now and truthfully I haven't been doing all that much checking.

OK, here's one for ya all. When we see backlinks showing that have no PR showing on the toolbar, should we assume that when the toolbar updates that page will be =>PR4?

Tell us.

If the answer to that is yes, that when we see a PR0 backlink it will be PR4 when the toolbar PR updates, why wouldn't the same thing be true for a PR3 backlink showing that will be =>PR4 when the toolbar PR updates?

Why a PR0 and not a PR3?

I agree it is not going to help in anyway directly with rankings, We all know every link from a valid resource counts as a vote even if they dont show in backlinks in google,
But it ended a lot of Misunderstanding theory evoling around the backlink check for us, We do extensive study on Google Algorithm and their ranking criteria, This is just a part of that study,

Why we do this Because We love Google,
