I'm Finally Number One Again

For my own company name

My company name became quite a searched for term so spammers started using it as a 'catch-all' doorway page on Google. I ended up in 32nd place for my own company name under cloaked pages, spam search engines, keyword stuffed doorway pages and so on and so on.

The majority of my inbound links point to specific products that I sell or specific categories within the site. Hardly any link to me by my company name so I've had to go and get a bunch of links with my company name in the anchor text to get back on top.

After this last 'update' a few days ago I finally made the leap back to the No.1 spot. Just thought I'd share my experience as I'm sure there are many of you who may not think of your company name as a competitive keyword and are fighting for product/service phrases. Remember to get your company name in anchor text to prevent this happening to you.

Congrats! I hate seeing relevant sites buried under spam.

Did any of the spam sites change/get dropped or do think the anchor text changes were all it took to fix?

I'm still waiting to see Google's filters in FULL action against sophisticated doorways, sophisticated hidden links, and sophisticated multiple backlinks in my business.

Google, make my day soon and get rid of the last sophisticated spammers in my area.

Thanks for the advice. I have been barried under spam sites for about a year. I will try your technique!

At the bottom of the serps in a search for your company name, there is a 'Disatisfied? Help us improve' text link. Tell Google about the brand hijackers, because that crap really doesn't improve the search experience.

Google should use its own technology to catch "brand hijackers".

It's a shame if Google has to rely on whistleblowers to improve its search results.

Ah. Almost the same thing had happened to me with one of my sites - except, I wasn't taken over by any spammers, or keyword-stuffers or whatever, I was taken over by my link-parters themselves!

Was hard getting up there, but I finally did once my PR was increased.

hm.. seems to tell you.. PR does matter.

This might have more to do with your backlinks and their hanchor text rather than the PR itself?
