keywords in directory names

I understand that keywords in filenames, such as 'www.mysite.com/beer-history.html', will help Google rankings, but does that also apply to directory names, as in www.mysite.com/beer-history/page3.html'?

Is there value in naming directories as such, or just in naming the html file that actually holds the content?

Thanks.

Bottom line - we don't know for sure - but doesn't doing this make good sense for organization?

Google does highlight keywords in directories - but that's not proff it contributes towards ranking.

Hey Chico_Loco. Thanks.

Yeah, but I'm pondering whether to change existing directory names to boost rankings. Don't want to bother if it's not gonna accomplish anything useful.

Isn't making your content more organized and having terms highlighted properly in SERPs useful to your visitors?

People scan, if you can do something to catch their eyes that's something.
