directories for optimization?

in the process of designing a web site. wondering for google, what are your opinions on using directories for content. e.g. for a songs page

1) http://www.google.com/artist/songs.php

2) http://www.google.com/artist/songs/

Would google rank case 2 higher because it is a directory?
