"Did you mean" problem

Let say I have a brick and mortar company. If I type in widgetmarker it says "Did you mean widgetmaker". The problem is that if you click on the link it brings you to the competitors site. Both of the terms are words but google doesn't recogize the first term as a word. Is there any thing I can do to fix this problem.

Thank you,

build a better widgetmaker:)

<added>I think the lack of replies was because clicking on the "did you mean link" will not bring you to a specific page in G, just their SERP for the term. If someone is looking for a "widgetmarker" then "widgetmaker" is irrelevant unless there are no other results for "widgetmarker" and they click through hoping they can provide a service for providing a "widgetmarker".</added>

Had the same problem before.

All that helps is getting external sites with widgetmaker in the text body or links with using widgetmaker as the anchor. As soon as you have a decent amount of them you will get rid of the message.

Yahoo does the same however they drop the notice as soon as they have more than 20 search results. No idea where google's limit is.

I think there's really nothing you can do, except become a high-ranking employee at Google and suggest the change.

Google gives an alternative for a term that I target even though the original term is found almost 4,000,000 times and searched for over 250,000 according to Overture (about the same as the term it's replaced with).

The only thing you can do is try to beat your competitor on the other search term. It may be hard, but it sure is a heck of a lot easier than changing Google's suggestion.
