Linking to Google

Any benefit?

I have noticed a few of my competitors have a link to Google at the foot of their home page.

I'm just wondering if Google give websites a slight bonus if they have linked to Google's homepage?

I would vote NO just because that seems stupid, people know who google is, they have a PR 10, they dont need me to transfer some of my good ole PR 7 over to them.................

If they did increase a ranking for those sites, that would certainly be a discriminating factor in ranking pages. Pages would not be ranked on content, but on the kiss-a$$ methods they use to link to google, etc.

There used to be some kind of rumour about Google increasing your PR by 0.0000001 if you had the words "Google Rulez" somewhere. However, that's daft.

A link to Google can't hurt you mind you. I link to them off the links page, also from several other pages, using the cobranding site search, which is kind of cool - Google results with your logo at the top:)

Well .. I have been reading a site on the Google Algoritm and if my understanding of it is correct .. a link to Google is obviously a one way external outbound link ... meaning whichever page the link to Google is on ... will lose out.

Not quite - pages that are also linked to *from* that page will lose out depending on how many other links are outbound from that page.

It simply dilutes the amount of page rank that is transferred via outbound links on that page by one extra link.

In answer to the original question, no it won't help you. Unless you're trying to rank for the keyword "google" in which case, good luck.
