Getting more page views from existing visitors

I have noticed that a good way to get visitors to read more articles on my website is to have a few "related story" links at the bottom of the articles I write. As I add new articles sometimes they are relevant to some other ones and I link them. However on older pages that have ranked well I would also like to link to newer articles while they are climbing the SERP's. I am a little hesitant to do this though because from other topics I have discussed with some of you here, you mentioned to me that if a page ranks good with G, to leave it alone, not go back and tweak. That's why I'm weary to start linking my older articles to my newer ones.

What is your advice on this issue?

Do what's best for your users. I think GG always gives this advice and from my understanding it's not bad as long as the user gets links to relevant topics, it's good. Just look all the discussions about on- and off-topics link exchanges. It's the same within a site, if possible on-topic.

You could link to 'other articles you may be interested in'. It's not going to hurt the ranking of your pages.
