Huge changes today

We've seen some massive changes this afternoon, anyone else?

Is anybody else seeing some very different results right now? It doesn't appear exactly like previous results.

We just saw some major un-sandboxing but now it seems like we're back in the dirt, sort of.

We're seeing hundreds of positions type slides for sites that ranked very well as of last friday.

A few sites are showing no noticable change in rankings however.

Possible penalizations?

I thing it was good idea from Google. After Florida everyone who was banned has cleaned his site from every potential spam, from cross linking from many domains portfolio to one major domain. The Google result were garbage for time after, so they are coming back to old google but our sites are much cleaner then before.

Um ... not the sites I am seeing rear their ugly heads! Their spam methods work just fine on both MSN and Yahoo, so what if Google removes them?

They have a dozen more sites which are cloaked and seem to make Googlebot very happy. These guys are killing the viability of search engine algos.

Just FYI

I see major staggering in hourly hits for some sites and not others.

If I look at my monthly AVG. hits per each hour of the day for two of my sites. (We manage about 20 mid to huge sites) I see for example a slow steady increase as normal from about 9am --> 12Am; 10 AM being the most hits per day.

But recently each hour there is a swing (Decrease of 50% from avg) from the most recent hour just before the hour of the 50% decrease, then there is another increase of 50% above the last hour that is line with my normal hits for that hour.

It is hard to explain in typing but I am trying.

Anyway there are large swings in total avg. hits, this is not normal for a site with many hits per day during the lunchtime hours 10AM-2PM

If I compare the monthly view (total hits per hour-monthly running total) and the daily views (totals per each hour for one day) I see these 50% swings.

Anyone else see this, Hope you are with me here on my explanation?

This is weird. My site that I mentioned earlier in this thread that has disappeared from its previous No2 place (to out of the first 100) for a particular important phrase comes up number 1 if I do the -kljkljlj (etc) sandbox thingy. It's not a new site though - been live and in google for 2 and a half years. I've added adsense ads to the site earlier this month so don't know if this has put me back in the sandbox or what's happening here.

I'm seeing PR4 for a newish site for the first time that was PR<1 for a couple of months. This is not yet visible in parts of the US, so perhaps there is a PR update going on.

We're due for a PR update *very* soon.

Traffic patterns have been showing internal google PR updates over the last two weeks.

Some deeper than usual crawling last week too on our larger sites.

I'm competing in the SEO competition and had my site copied and cloaked. Top sites stayed top, others went to serp 100+ due to duplicate page penalty. Have just started to come back, but Google is flipping very regularly between datacenters, showing total pages -+100,000 and my ranking -+10 places. Even stranger is one datacenter that shows a certain page twice on the serps ranking say 19th and 24th. First time I have seen that, but then this is the first time I have watched so closely, and had so many competing for top spot.

The dup penalty that my site suffered also meant that the page was not updated so often (Yahoo has a more recent copy). Yahoo is showing what I consider to be a truer picture of the top competitors. So the massive changes in the SERP's are certainly interesting

For one of my main keyword pairs, serps been radically fluctuating all day. More than everflux (my site dropped from page 3 to 16 and others similarly affected).

Anybody else seen anything?

I am not seeing anything. In fact, for the SERPs I watch, all the datacenters seem to be aligned and have not changed for several days.

You must be in a relatively stable phrase for Google because, I am still seeing big fluctuations both in rankings and in total pages for the term. And same page not being shown for Google whole world v Google country only.

Its just for this one keyword pair "widget industry". All the other results I watch are showing nothing unusual.
