Yes. I didn't know this until two days ago. I read the following post by Georgeek:

>My current assumption is that the alt text of an >image will not be indexed by google unless the image >is a link to another page.
>I would be interested if anyone thinks otherwise.

I had never heard this. I 4 pages (the most important pages on my site) that I have been STRUGGLING to get back up to the top of the rankings for certain keywords. Yep. my company which had endured a top 10 ranking for years disappeared from the top 100. I figured that I had nothing to lose so I added hyperlinks to the images as Georgeek had suggested. BOOM! Within 2 days flat, those pages SHOT and I mean shot to the number one and number 2 positions for the keywords that are critical to my site. Clearly Google was NOT reading the ALT tags in the images until I added the hyperlinks. Now why in 7 years of having a web site did it take stumbling on a comment on a discussion board to realize this? Trust me, I will be sticking around here and becoming a member as soon as business picks up.

Thanks Georgeek
