Listing in Yahoo to get into Google no longer works?

Hi

I've been listing two of my sites in Yahoo directory ($299 a year) and have achieved good results - I got into Google and it is spidering my sites regularly.

However, I tried the same around Feb 2004 for a third website. The results were disappointing. I rank very badly in Google (although it still spidered my pages). Not sure if it has to do with the Yahoo and Google fallout. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

Their help for webmasters page still mentions Yahoo, Netscape and DMOZ. How much help you will get for the one link depends on how competitive the area you want your site to do well for is, among many other things. Get lots and lots of relevant links to your site. Go ahead, they'll bring traffic to your site, too. Sometimes its easy, sometimes its hard (depending the quality of your content). None of the above mentioned links will help you any more than any other link, except for a more sure chance of getting crawled.

I agree with Powdork.
You should also seek some SEO for your site besides listing it with yahoo. Google in the past gave a great importance to ODP and Yahoo listings. In the past because now even ODP listings doesn't seem to have any affect on Google rankings.
