Googlebot Question

I have had Google indexing my site on and off for the last couple of days. I have noticed that sometimes it will appear in logs as "Googlebot/2.1" and other times as "Googlebot/Test". Is this just a newer version of the bot being tested, or does it serve another purpose?

There has been speculation that Googlebot/Test might be looking for javascript or some such thing, (amongst other theories). It still seems to be an unknown.
