Domain parking with redirects

Is parking some domain on my main site IP with redirects a good idea?

I have my own server and a line of business website called for the sake of argument www.domain.com (it has a virtual host with 301 redirects from domain.com to www.domain.com). I also have a number of domains related to my line of business like domain.net, .org, .co.uk etc.

At present I have virtual hosts for all of the above on the same server IP. So, on the same IP as www.domain.com is hosted there is also domain.org, www.domain.org & domain.net etc. Each of the parked domains has a 301 redirect for the whole site.

Is this a good idea. Will the likes of google have a problem with this kind of arrangement? I don't see how I could fall foul of the duplicate site filter, because of the 301 redirects. Anything else I might fall foul of?

why not setting aliases in your webserver instead?

Like you probably already have for domain.com and www.domain.com.

Just add domain.net www.domain.net in the aliases list.

Google will immediately see that all is the same page and there won't be any problem.

just my 2 cents.

I had it like that about 9 months ago and got pretty unceremonially dumped out of google for my pains. came back when I removed the duplicates.

A domain alias is not giving a 301 redirect so to be on the sure side you rather have 301 recirects for those domains.

do all the sites have the same/similar content?
do they link to each other (much?)?

if the answer to those is both no, then you have nothing to worry about, however, if you interlink, you'll degrade your PR (but won't be dumped). if you have the same/similar content, you're a sitting duck for dumpination.
