Duplicate content useful?

...are the links/theming still valid?

I have a small site, which grew up and became a subset of a bigger site.

The smaller site has higher PR than the equivalent section of the larger site, due to earlier link-building efforts. But it has dropped out of the SERPS, due I assume to duplicate content issues, and has been replaced by the equivalent section of the bigger site, though in a lower position.

So, my question is, is it safe to delete this site? Or should I harness the PR, and link from the smaller site to the equivalent section of the bigger site? Will this benefit my bigger site in terms of the associated "theming", although the smaller one is no longer in the SERPS?

Delete the duplicate content, then either redirect the old site, or until Yahoo does better with redirects, just make the old site pages have a link to the new page. You'll pass PR that way and not have any duplicate problems.
