This is a spin-off of the other current Local Search thread in Google News

No complaining about Google's results or the quality of the current beta.

Lets discuss:

1) How to optimize your site for local search? (location on every page - and does that mean address + zip or do you also need a local (non 800) phone number?

2) Where the current data is coming from? (a yellow page partner? their own idex re-sorted by zip code, etc?)

So far, it's pretty straightforward:

1) Get a Switchboard or other prime IYP listing.
2) Have your phone number, address with zip on your home pages.
3) Follow Brett's rules on basic SEO.

1. Get multiple Switchboard or other prime IYP listings with multiple addresses that match the centroids Google uses for the areas you target.

Anyone care to coin a name for this directory spam?

Hi Kirby
are we allowed to say "ypissing" for yellow page you-know-what . . .

So is Google only looking at online YP listings?
