I monitor several competitor sites for a client. When I query google for all links to my clients URLs, Google does fine. When I check the links for a few competitor sites using their various URLs I have discovered they have, Google reports back the same link count for ALL URLs. Its like Google counts all URLs as the same for one site instead of reporting that amount of links per URL used in the links.
Example: The URLs widget.com, bestwidget.com, mightywidget.com, and awesomewidget.com are all used by other sites to link to your main site widget.com (I discovered they use a meta refresh for redirecting).
Keep in mind that up till two days ago Google ALWAYS reported the actual amount of instances where site owners used each individual link.
