Quick (I hope!) question.

In competitive areas, where sites competing are say a million, google still returns rapid results. I assume it does a quick and dirty to get to 1000 (max results displayed) and then prioritises amongst these 1000 according to it's full algorithm.

Is this correct? Any insight as to what the initial criteria is? Is it as simple as PR, or is it keyword and PR only appears in full algorithm?

Help appreciated, hope question isn't too daft!

Given that no-one can see what the other 999,000 results are, it's difficult to make a judgement about what's different between those and the top 1000 results.
