It looks like from the article I was just reading that PR0 is 0-10 backlinks. Does that mean I need 11 or higher for a PR1?

This is what it says.

Pagerank ... Real Pagerank (backlinks)
--------------------------

0 .......... 0 - 10
1 .......... 100 - 1,000
2 .......... 1,000 - 10,000

Looks like to me this is flawed, looks like Pagerank 0 should be 0 - 99 .. does anyone know the correct figures? I've only got 8 backlinks to my site so I'm hoping I only need 3 more for a PR1 hehe.. anyone wanna trade links? teehee.

One link from a PR8 page may be enough to get your page to PR7.

phaseone:
It is not just the number of backlinks that matters. Links from pages with high PR will transfer more PR to your site. How much PR each link gives your site depends upon the PR of the page that gives you the link, and also the number of other links on that page. It's a litlle complicated, but you'll get the general idea if you read many of the threads on this forum.

Right I understand this.

One more question on topic, if I have say, 8 links pointing to me from MSN, Yahoo!, Hotbot, Altavista and maybe Alltheweb, wouldn't that bring my Pagerank to at least PR1 since all those sites have high Pageranks?

But then that wouldn't because the actual dynamic search page with your link on it is not going to have a high Pagerank right.

Grr this is tough, I need at least some Pagerank in order to share links because people don't want me to bring their PR down. So how do I get Pagerank!

I guess I need to maybe pay for a spot on someones page heay? Sigh, CC is maxed out, have got income tax returns coming though.

anyway thanks for any advice guys -Jim

Results on search pages are not backlinks.

Results on search pages are not backlinks.

I've seen search engine result pages in back links. For example, this page shows the search results for the term "webmasterworld" on A9.com.

[a9.com...]

If google reads this message, then it might decide that the above search results page is a page just like all other pages.

Of course, such pages might have low page rank.
