Backward links within site

how important are they?

I have developed a new site that went "live" about a month ago.

Here is a little background info:

2 or 3 inbound links from sites with PR4-PR6
3 or 4 inbound links from PR2 or less
All 14 pages of site are listed in "G"
All pages have text links back to index page
The site has a site map
The site already has a PR4 (which seems pretty good for such a short period of time)

Now...my question is this... I have seen many sites that show results from a backwards link check yield many pages from withing the "root site". If my site already has all the pages listed - why do they not also show as backward links? Is it because the other pages are still PR 0 that "G" does not list them as backwards links? Which brings me to another question - at what point do they begin to share PR with the index page?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments ;)

The inner pages are less than PR4. Get to a PR5 or 6 and interlink your pages right and they will all show as backlinks.

I assume by "linking right" you are speaking of static text link?

As a follow up - the index page seems to move back and forth between PR1 and PR4. It did it this weekend for about an hour was PR1 then moved back to PR4. Could this be a glitch in the G toolbar? I was not aware G moved that fast with regards to adjusting PR.
This morning - it is back to PR1... any thought on this?

PR can be different when linking to your domain as opposed to your default page. This may be what you are seeing.

I have checked both mysite.com and mysite.com/index.html Both are the same PR. Any links that I have both within this site and from other sites are all to the domain - not index - is that a bad thing?

IONWeb, as I understand it you are doing this the right way. Apparently if you have links pointing to both they can end up sharing PR.

willybefriendly,

I have TONS of interior pages with text links directly back to the homepage, but none show as backlinks. Any idea why?

Your inner pages have to be PR4 or greater to show as backlinks.

I've seen 3s show up as backlinks also (that's why I was aking). I always thought it was PR4 and above, but I've seen 3's for certain and I think I may have even seen 2's (although I could be mistaken). Could it be that the 3's I saw were very very strong 3s that really should have shown up as 4s?
