If indexed, should keyword results appear immediately?

Or does that take some time too?

I have a site that has finally started seeing some page indexes from Google. It has received some pagerank from the sites I link to it from, and several pages show in the cache...

But none of the keywords are showing up in results. If you have been indexed, will the keywords start showing immediately in search results (if they will show at all) or is there a lag time between index and actual insertion into the database.

If this makes any since at all? Basically what I am wondering is, is the index the last step - or do I need to be patient.

I am concerned because when I type the domain name into the search bar I can see some of the pages, and if I type the domain name into the search bar WITH the keywords, I can see the pages - but just the keywords alone I am nowhere to be found in the top 1,000 results. Most of the indexed pages were crawled about a week ago.

Does this probably mean the keywords just won't make it and I need to go back to the drawing board, or am I being impatient?

Thanks everyone!
