Google lost my home page

I have recently changed the content of my website, including a name change of the home page from default.asp to index.htm

After waiting and waiting Google eventually produced the new home page (as well as the old one which no longer exists) in searches using my website's name. That was 2 days ago. Now today Google is no longer finding the new home page at all, instead the old home page has returned to the top of the search results.

All I've done during that time is make a couple of changes to the text content, added a couple of affiliate banner ads and added an extra keyword to my meta tags.

can anyone suggest an explanation?
