ok, im stumped - I ran into a site who is pr5 - however, looking at google or alltheweb, they barely have any links and it doesn't seem like any of them is of any pr value! How did they do it?

im listing the site in case anyone feels curious enough to run it through google and alltheweb and see the same things I saw:

[snip]

I am not affiliated with this site, and have no financial stake on it or anything.

One possibility is that you haven't found links to internal pages. It is possible this site has some high PR links to internal pages that is funneling up to the home page. Check about that. Also, in those search engines the link: command is sometimes buggy, and in the case of Google intentionally incomplete: usually backlinks from pages <PR4 aren't listed. Also, Google now updates PR at times different than the main index. It's possible that sometime in the past this site had a PR6 page linking to it. It may still be showing as counting in the toolbar PR display, but not with the link: command.

As such, I'd suggest looking deeper. If that fails, wait a month or so to see if this site still is PR5. It may drop in the next PR update.

I'd suggest using another SE to check backlinks. Maaany PR 3 links also bring you a pr 5.
