Targeting SEO for US traffic

I own a travel company which is based in the UK, now at the moment 89% of my traffic is from UK and Europe, with the remainder US, etc.

This is due to the keywords that I am optimising website on, rather than anything else., i.e. Holiday / Vacation

What I want to do is get US holidaymakers visiting the site, because many US residents still travel abroad to Europe, and I also have holidays in the US aswell.

Which is the best way to go around this.

1) Designing a new site, optimised at US audiance, with links to the main website.

2) Subdomain optimised at US audiance, with links to the main website

3) Just one page, optimised for US audiance within the website and the usual internal linking.

I don't want google or any other SE' to think it's a doorway page, and I don't want to be really running two websites together, I'd see a new website having say 10 pages, but the holiday search, and other features linked to my main website.

Any ideas or thoughts?
