Google SERPs really boost traffic?

My estimate was far from real number of visitors?

I've been trying to get listed nearly top on Google, and I achieved my goal. My site is now listed at first page on Google.

I expected that the target keyword should have been searched 150 to 200 per day. (Estimated number was derived from my research on Wordtracker and Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool)

However, actual number of visitors to my site is as few as 30 per day...I wounder what is causing the difference between estimated number and actual one...

I'd appreciate if you could give me advice on any clue.

BigDave, I'm a little confused over the last thing you mentioned about websites appealing to google hackers. Would you mind defining what a google hacker is and replacing the words "they" and "them" with names?

"They" and "them" refers to the google hackers.

As for your not understanding "google hackers", I would guess that your only association with the word "hacker" is the misuse of the word by the media when they should be using the word "cracker".

From RFC1392

cracker
A cracker is an individual who attempts to access computer systems without authorization. These individuals are often malicious, as opposed to hackers, and have many means at their disposal for breaking into a system. See also: hacker, Computer Emergency Response Team, Trojan Horse, virus, worm.

hacker
A person who delights in having an intimate understanding of the internal workings of a system, computers and computer networks in particular. The term is often misused in a pejorative context, where "cracker" would be the correct term. See also: cracker.

So most of the programmers at Google would qualify as hackers instead of just mere programmers doing a job.

Thanks BigDave, that definitely clears it up... I was thinking google hacker was simply someone who was good at tricking google to rank their pages high. That definitely didn't make sense in the context you used it in, so I was confused.

What appeals to a google hacker then? I mean if the other search results are legitimate and not spam pages, how do you make your page more appealling?

YES Google Serps Really Boost Traffic, Possibly Not as much, or possibly more than expected. Content is still king, the more content, the more possible matches.

Simple. make you site the best, most informative site possible. Make it a site that no sensible person would object to it being there at #1.

If you were to search on "desmond tutu" the nobel peace prize winner, there are lots of acceptalbe pages that could take the top position.

- His Nobel prize page.
- tutu.org, the Desmond Tutu Peace Center
- The Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation

There are lots of sites that would be appropriate at the top. A bunch of bookstores selling books about him, with no real information would not go over very well.
