My website was listed in google and used .html pages, I have just updated the site (redesigned layout and added more content) however due coding reasons I have used .asp pages. So all my .html do not exist so when i search on google at one of my old pages a page cannot be displyed message appears.

(1) Should i redirect these .html pages to the new .asp pages or just wait for google to spider them again?

(2) Having been out of touch in recent weeks, does the google update still happen, if so when is it due so i can see if my new pages have been included.

(3) Do asp or HTML pages have any preferences with google (is there a better one to use)

I have updated my site to hopefully increase my hits, by using headers and include files and added more keywords and a lot more content, however by changing the .html or .asp - am i really starting from scratch again - and all my previous work has gone down the drain?

thanks for any advice

Some thought about your questions...

(1) Should i redirect these .html pages to the new .asp pages or just wait for google to spider them again?
YOUR CALL... DEPENDS ON HOW LONG YOU ARE WILLING TO WAIT FOR RE-SPIDER AND RE-INDEXING.

(2) Having been out of touch in recent weeks, does the google update still happen, if so when is it due so i can see if my new pages have been included.
STILL HAPPENS, BUT NOT ON ANY SCHEDULE. SEEMS TO HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT FOR DIFFERENT AREAS.

(3) Do asp or HTML pages have any preferences with google (is there a better one to use)
MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHAT THE EXTENSION IS .HTML, .PHP, .HTM, .SHTML, ETC.
