Google & Yahoo dropped my listing?

After 3 years my site disapeered- forever?

I'm no webmaster, but I worked hard when I built my site with Frontpage- used [snip] to set up my meta tags and submissions even did a Yahoo express business listing for $199 in '99, and in 6 months I arrived! I've had a good ranking (top 3)for 3+ years, I thought it would last. I disapeered last December- except for my paid Google Adwords and Yahoo/Overture listing. I've tried to tweak my site, hoping it will "freely" come back. My hits are way down!

Thank you in advance,
Mark

Just some stuff to ponder:

You could use more content on your homepage.

Your google PR (pagerank) is 5, thats good. This is determined with the google toolbar.

You need more pages indexed with Google, I did an allinurl command and found very few pages indexed.

Your Images need alt tags

Overall I would say you need more content.

Not to be critical I only spent about 2 minutes on this but I think these will improve your chances. I lost a number 4 listing in Google on the last update and I wasnt very happy either.

What I have found so illogical in all of this is if it was good enough for 3 years why has it been dropped now?

I think that it must be something more than these minor tweaks that are required. If you had done them previously maybe you would have been at #1 but it doesn't explain why you have dropped like a stone.

If you ask ten people here the way back they will all tell you completely different directions in which to travel and at least five of them will be equally valid.

All of the housekeeping things that have been mentioned are valid but there have also IMHO been two significant changes which have dramatically affected some pages. One is a new implementation of some form of dupe filter which is knocking out sites in which www and non-www versions of the domain point to the same site. The other is a problem with semantics of certain words.

You have got a lot of reading to do.

Good luck

I'm top 3 for over 70 single keyword drug searches...

It's all in the semantics, I can't stress it enough.
Become an authority on all related topics within your site/page and have links internally to related content.

That's not a flash in the pan is it?

How long have you held the positions?

I'm not disputing you are right, sure you are, just looking for more information.

Best wishes

Our site came online November 15, been steady since then.

First Place Rankings: 274
Top 5: 707
Top 10: 774
Top 20: 894
Top 30: 972

those numbers are our primary 70 single keywords, plus addon words like "buy" and "online"

part of my endeavour has been to build a huge information database to go with our products. evidently this has been the right course. we are generally the only commercial result on page 1, at most there is one competitor.

cheers.

[ps, your LSI comments have been informative]

You've got the "new site" boost so don't get too comfortable :)

FYI: for some who don't know. Yahoo has dumped Google's results..
