I have about 950 pages listed in googles index. However, I don't think my index page is listed, I couldn't find it in the first 400 pages listed.
How can you search google for your index page and not include any of the other pages?

Don't think you can. Put if you type a sentence of your home page using " ------------- "SENTENCE SENTENCE SENTENCE" ------------- then it should find it.

Type in your url and click "Search". If it's not there, try different variants of it like [example.com...] or [example.com...]

Search for a phrase, in quotes, that occurs only (or mainly) on the home page, eg:
"welcome to the world of widgets" site:www.widgets.com

If you have the Google toolbar you can checked the Cached version of the page. Its a free download utility from google.
Thanks for the info above, I've been looking for this.

simplest way to check if a specific page is indexed. type the url into the search box. if cached you should see the title and description as the result.
