Domain not banned, site banned?

...and if so what can I do about it?

Hi all,

The things is i'm not sure if my website is banned or not.

I have 2 websites using the same domain.

eg
site 1: widgets.tld/x
site 2: widgets.tld/y

Around 7 months ago I achieved top rank for site 1 on a 3 word search term. Then 1 week later it completely disappeared from google... and hasn't returned.

Site 2 has always been ranked no.1 for a different 3 word search term... and still is today.

So the question is... is it possible for sites within a domain to be banned but not the actual domain ie.)in my example site 1 banned, site 2 not banned.

Also if it is banned whats the best way for it to be reinstated... could I contact google?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
