Should I link to pages with a PR2/3 ranking?

Hi,
I have a small site advertising my holiday home for rental. I was quite pleased that it had a PR2 ranking fairly soon, but I learnt that this was because I had unintentionally linked it to a PR5 site with nothing to do with holidays. I was in the top 20 for a couple opf keywords - and I was pleased with my first attempt at webbuilding. However, I dropped to about number 2,000 after the PR5 site went into liquidation!

Now I am starting to find links but find it nearly impossible to get my website name on a PR4 or a PR5 site, although i could get some PR1,2 and 3 links.

Are these PR2 and PR3 sites worth linking to - would they improve my PR ranking, which has now gone to 0/10!
Thanks.

I think you mean "worth getting links from", and if that is what you mean, then the answer is yes.

A link is always worth having, wherever it's from, as long as it's on topic. If nothing else, it will bring you a little traffic.

reddevil ... I'd stop obsessing about PR. Look for the kind of sites that people in the market for a holiday home might visit. They will be the kind of sites you want to be listed on. And many of these will probably be directories to which you can submit for free/a nominal fee.

You might also want to think about submitting your site to DMOZ. After a few months, you should have enough links scattered around the Internet to keep your site indexed.

I think these days anchor text is much more important then PR when looking at what kind of seo benifit might come from the link - and that PR2 may swell to a nice PR6 soon.

Yes, I agree with Kevin. A PR 2 can soon become a PR 5/6. Just make sure that you are linking to a relevant site.

yeh, getting links from a PR2 site - that's what I meant.
The reason why I want to increase my PR is because I imagine it will help me to increase my position the the SE's. Recently I slipped from top 20 (as a PR2) to absolutely nowhere (as a PR0)! so it must have some value. I don;t want to be obsessed about anything, although i do want to be in the top 40.
I wondered why my PR had slipped as I hadn;t changed any content and the only change I could see was that the PR5 links had disappeared due to the site going into liquidation.
If there is any other way of getting into the top 40 then I would like to try that too.
Cheers.

Will getting links from a PR2 site have any chance to increase my PR0 ranking?

well the actual content of your website will have absolutely no effect on PR. PR is calculated from the PR of the pages that link to you.

You shouldn't be concerned really with what the PR of your site is - but you should strive for at least a PR4 or PR5 to be competive. I know of many sites that smash PR7 websites with only a PR4, they do this usually because of better anchor text.

Yes if your at a PR0 right now - get that PR2 link, as many webmasters might not want to link to you with a PR0. I would highly suggest submitting to the free directories to help boost your PR, once you have a little it will become easier to get sites to link to you.

Most certainly - one link can lead to another. I placed a link for a client on a relatively small, business start-up site. The link was noticed by a journalist on the BBC who then wrote a feature and published it on BBC online (PR9).

Think of PR like money. Given the choice between a $100 bill and a $1 bill, guess which I would choose? But given the choice between accepting and refusing several $1 bills, guess once again which I would choose?

Since PR is logartithmic the loss of the PR 5 site is severe, but agressively seeking PR 2/3 links is a partial substitute. And, as others have pointed out, some of them may increase their PR with time.

Thanks for all your very useful comments.
Although I feel small, I will now concentrate on getting my PR2/3 links from other holiday sites.

Happy holidaying!
