In my Case, I sell parts for motorized widgets, which covers a lot of search terms. If you do not show up in the serps on .com, but show up on .de.fr etc, I do not believe that your site is not in google, it has just been filtered out of the results.
On some keywords, 2, 3, 4 sets, My widgets parts site has been filtered out of the serps being displayed on .com, but not on .de.fr etc. On other keywords I still retain for the most part the same positions in the serps, As before Austin.
Hey GG, what is up with this, and where are we going with it.
Thanks,
Thumpcyc
i've just realised I appear at #3 for a 3 keyword search on .com (so kw1 kw2 I appear nowhere in the listings, kw1 kw2 kw3 I am ranked 3rd). Problem is, my industry is just 2 kewords :(
if they use guaranteed submit, if they use adwords etc etc.
Afaik there's no "guaranteed submit" to Google, so I don't know what you mean. AdWords is also another world, though it's part of Google.
The secret of a stable listing is getting good backlinks imho. So don't check your SERPs, check the web for possible backlink sources. :)
As far as backlinks go (in Google) I am either ahead of or competing nicely with the first couple of pages of results for my keywords on Google.com.
What's interesting tho; Google seems to do something with your home language in its search query, affecting its results.
Changing the "&hl=XX" (en for English on Google.com) to "&hl=nl" (Netherlands) makes us appear at the same position we have on Google.nl.
Anyone can think of a good explanation?
Remeber tho, the upper does not seem to be valid for all searches. Haven't investigated why exactly, time is short on my behalf :(
Should I use some meta tag for explaining Google it is interesting for the citizens of the world, any, which speaks English?
Should I move to an American server?
I noticed today google recognizes perfectly my host is french... As when I search for my top keyword, for only "french sites", I get in 1st place! ;)
I'll add some meta tags to the code, before changing server, but I find this very, very bad...
We live in a global world, I simply host my website where it is cheaper... I could host in any other country, the place where I host it, is not related at all with the content of the site...
On non-US Google site I do a seach for my main keyword. I come up #6 with a fresh tag (feb2) but the listing does not have a link to my Google (DMOZ) directory listing and it is just listed as mydomain.com. I changed my title tag a few days ago and the new title is showing.
On the US Google site I do a search for my main keyword and I am towards the end of the second results page without a fresh tag, with a link to the Google (DMOZ) directory, and listed as www.mydomain.com.
It seems the non-US Google sites are showing the most recent data. Maybe they are just trying out some new algo tweaks (which seem pretty good to me) on their weaker markets prior to switching it completly across the board. It's really confusing to me why the DMOZ stuff isn't being shown and why the www is missing on non-US sites.
Wierd stuff...I'll keep my fingers crossed.
A 'url.com' hosted in the USA will give the best Google.com positions.
It will however not perform as well on regional Googles.
I would then put up a site with a country specific domain 'url.co.uk' for example which would feature well in 'google.co.uk' and so on.
Care must be taken to avoid duplication.
The combination of domain suffix and hosting location (geographic) is a very important factor.
