I have a website that is example: www.bluewidgets.com

I also own a few domains like: superwidgets.com, widgetworld.com, and widgets-are-us.com

These domain names are currently not being used for anyhting, so I wanted to just have these widgets re-direct to my main webiste www.bluewidgets.com just in case somebody types in any of my other domain names into their browser.

What is the best way to do this, and do I risk getting penalized by Google for this? I will not have any content or actual websites associated with thes domains, they will just point to my main website...

Your advice is much appreciated!

No, nothing wrong, provided you do it properly.

Search this site for permanent 301 redirects. That is the only safe way.

The *other* safe way <grin>
is to put a single index.html on the other sites that explains the content and invites the user to "enter the site", at which point one can jump to the main site.

This solution works for those webmasters who (like one of the sites I've authored for a local charity) don't have access to the .htaccess files on the "redirecting" sites.

Both Google and human visitors will understand what is going on and their browsing experience won't be a lot less convenient than a 301.

There can be much discussion about the above approach vis a vis page rank, but an index.html that has only one link, to a different site, will convey a large amount of its page rank across, just not all of it....

As I said, I've done it for a local charity, and it works fine.

You can even give the index.html a frame structure so that the frame content *is* the new site, and let Google follow a link in the noframes section, to jump across "manually", as it were.

That's not the world's clearest exposition, but I'm sure that any attempt by me to clarify it will only make it worse, so on that note...
