Relationship of Overture Keyword Gene to Google Results

To what extent does the Overture tool reflect Google results?

My experience with the Overture Keyword research tool suggest that the results may not be completely accurate. For example I hold number one position for several KW expressions and the tool tells me that there are n number of searches a month for these. If this were true, and holding number one, I would expect to see greater traffic than I do.

Can anyone comment on the accuracy of this tool and how it relates to the searches done on Google? Also, can anyone offer any alternative method of doing this type of research?

Different demographics between Google and Overture Partners. Notice I said Overture Partners and not Overture? Remember, that Overture is playing on a whole lot more sites than Google.

I suspect that Overtures figures are way bogus. You can see large numbers of hits reported for very obscure word combinations (along the lines of "pink iguana skiing avacado" -- okay I'm making it up,,but you know what I mean).

I wrote to Overture pointing out how unlikely it was that so many people had used some of these strange combinations of words, and I was impressed that they managed to keep a straight face while claiming that the figures were completely accurate.

Brett,

Do you know what they base their results on? By this I mean that if it says that there were 567 searches for beige widgets does this mean that the 567 searches took place on Overture or a combination of several sites?

Does anyone know the relationship between this number and the actual number of searches done Web Wide?

Thanks folks - we aren't doing tool sites or specific searches (aka: spam reports).

Sorry Brett, perhaps the sarcasm didn't come across in the way I intended it.
