Backlinks updated

PR not

My backlinks have been updated since about a week or more, but the PR is still the same.

Does anybody know the approximate amount of time it will take for the PR to get updated?

The PR is already updated at the same time the backlinks is updated.

Your's is updated as well, but it is same as last month, so you thought there is no update.

I'm confused... did an update happen and nobody noticed? That couldn't be! However, I did see a number of new pages added in early January enter the index. Maybe this was just the usual freshbot activity.

The last official update was Florida... right? This happened in mid to late November. It is high time for another update... almost 60 days. How can we tell we are having an update if the backlinks don't update first?

You are incorrect. There was an update of backlinks and PR. No full blown DB or algo update.

sorry, when i think of an update i think of the database changing(ie results). Pagerank on its own is worthless(unless you are selling it)

1) The title of this thread is specific to backlinks and PR....we are discussing the updating of these two.

2) Some SEOs, including myself, track the backlinks of numerous sites, so these updates and data are important.

Lets face it, any seo checks lots of sites backlinks, i was not disputing that.

Update are continuos now a days.

The update on 11th JAN is the kind of update that we webmaster can SEE, that's the back link and PR update. You can see the PR bar changed and you can see your new back links from the link:http://www.yoursite.com/ search.

Again, update is continuos and everyday is 'everfluxing'. Keep yourself update too with this info. :)

I have a good link from a PR7 industry related site's homepage to my homepage and 2 of my internal pages. This link has been there for aprox. 6 months now and the site which links to me has masses of good content pages.

I just checked my backlinks on google and it's not showing. As far as I understood it Google tended to display quality links when using the link: command.

So my question is why would Google possibly consider that this link from an on theme site with a PR of 7 was not worthy of showing.

Your PR is already updated, it is changed from PR5 to PR5. :) No one knows when will be the next PR update but usually every 'seen' PR update is about once a month.

I believe you BUY that link. If that site also sells links to many other sites, Google has blocked PR to pass from its site.

Whether or not Google has blocked the PR from passing on is irrelevant to his question.....even if Google blocks the PR, the link should still appear in the backlinks....it just won't pass PR.

Is it on a links.html (or similiar) page?

I've also seen a situation where I have seen a links page with a PR of 4 which links to approx 30 - 40 themed sites including my site.
When I run the link: command for my domain I cannot see this link, whereas if I run the link: command for another one of the sites on the links page I can see their link.

This proves to me that the links page is ok but for some reason Google is not crediting me with that link. Why?

My site has had it's PR go from 5 to 6 since Florida so I'm sure I have not been penalized.

Yes around Jan 11th our page rank fell from 6 to a 5 but rankings stayed the same so...who cares? :) Page Rank doesnt seem to mean much of ANYTHING anymore - especially for some specific nitches!

Needinfo, is it some sort of lon-stringed redirect? Javascript?

Is it at the bottom of a 101k+ page (I assume that is not likely)?

Does the link show to other domains that it links to? Does it show to its internal pages?

Hi,
i have some pr8/7 sites and with thousands of inbound links and there are MANY normal not java links that do not show up in google. Why i have no idea, the sites in questin have high pr. I would say of all my links only half - 75% will show.

I still however have pretty good evidence that these links that don't show in google still have a value to my ranking, just not as much as the ones that show.

i had a lot of links in google that disappeared some time ago, does this mean that all the sites/pages that went were no longer considered of any value? i don't think so.

It is my belief that if google showed each and every backlink that was relevant, no more or less. Any seo could just go down the list and get every link themselves + a few more and go top, thus producing an artificial ranking(not what google wants).By making the backlinks a little varied it keeps us guessing and wondering if we are doing the right thing advertising on certain sites.

The pr7 relevant link you have had for 6 months will be very helpful so i wouldnt worry about it!

JSnow do a Google search for
"sitename.com" -site:sitename.com

Not every result is a link to your site... it could just be another site mentioning your site, but you get a pretty good idea from this.

I want to do that too! But they can't provide us with too sophicated search for links for us, the SEOs!

Tips: Set your preference to display 100 results per page (or add the &num=100 to the back of your search). They internal links will be grouped together in the 100 results page and you can easily find non internal pages. :)

I assume you are using the link:sitename.com syntax. As you know, this only shows backlinks with a PR of 4 or higher. Google may have more backlinks for your site, but these won't show up using the link: search filter. Also, you can't do a search for
link:sitename.com -site:sitename.com

So, the only way I know to try to find all of the links to your site that Google knows of, is to search for the site url in quotes... "sitename.com". Some of these are an active hyperlink to your site, some are not. You can use the -site:sitename.com to filter out your site, so the results show only external mentions of your site, or links to your site. You would have to go through the results by hand to see which of the results are links, and which are just mentions.

This is all very nice for sites that are smaller, or are just starting out... where webmasters are anxious to see that Google is seeing some backlinks to their site. Hey... everyone likes positive feedback! Once a site starts getting bigger, and it has lots of backlinks with PR4 or higher, I doubt that webmasters would be worried about counting up all the smaller backlinks.
