A page of mine which has been indexed for quite some time, has just lost it's PR and went grey in the toolbar. The page has been a PR 5 for quite some time, and ranked #2 for the keyphrase it targeted. Now if I search either www.site.com or site.com the page doesn't even exist. If it were a penalty of some sort, can it apply to just a single page, or site in whole. Maybe they just lost the page this go round. <shrug>

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I've had 2 sections of a site go from having the pages fully indexed and ranking to showing only the page titles and the alt text from the heading graphic as the description - and nothing more.

Those were the very first pages to go up on the site months ago, the first to get indexed. There's no apparent reason, there's not any difference between those pages and others on the site except that those happen to be the most desirable keywords.

It sure does look like a partial penalty.

On the whole, do any of your missing pages happen to be index pages of subdirectories, or are they in the root directory?

Hi Marcia, thanks for the reply..

this only happened to one page, and it is in the root directory. It's a second level sub. By that I just mean it's one click away from the homepage. Funny thing is it shows grey in the toolbar, but still shows 30 something backlinks

it's temporary. happened with my entire site for a day .. out of the serps as well .. but back to pr6 next day .. why google does it no idea .. but lately grey bar also means that the page has not been indexed by google .. you can see this by going to some dynamic pages, which used to show pr0 whether or not indexed previously.

when i was dropped for a day, the next day i shot up 15 pages in the serps for 2 or 3 keywords.

Mine's been like this for many, many weeks. Never lost PR and though it's definitely in the index it can't be brought up for a very distinct sentence in quotes.

There's nothing much I can do about it. It can't be touched because of the Inktomi rankings, otherwise I'd just do up a different page for that content and put it someplace else on the site. It's actually 2 sections that happened to - mainly the index pages of two subdirectories.

i actually have that problem with my index page itself, still has PR, still indexed, but for a very specific money keyword, it wont come up
