How are links within them handled?

Hi, I searched first, couldn't find a direct answer.

I'm just wondering exactly how the googlebot handles headers & footers.

I.E.
I have meta tags for all my pages referencing a header. Does the bot see the tags or just the reference to the header?

or

I have links in my footer, are they followed?

whatever the user sees, the bot sees. if your code is processed server-side, then the resulting html is what you would see if you did a View Source. Whatever you see in that View Source is what google will see.

aubs128, I don't understand what you are asking here, could you rephrase it?

As far as having links in your "footer" is concerned, yes, Google follows them.
