I advertise my website on another portal in my industry. For some reason the web designer has my link on all of the pages even the pages I dont pay for ads on, probably did a find replace of some sort. The pages I dont pay for advertising on he uses a comment tag so my link will not show up. Can this be a problem in anyway. And yes of course I know I can call and ask to have it removed but I would like to know if it is even a threat.

Thanks a bunch in advance,
DS

supposedly outside links can't hurt you as long as you're not linking back to them.

I think you're saying that your links do not appear on the pages since they are inside comment tags. This shouldn't be a problem since they are not in any way counted.

Actually I've never known of any cases where hidden links in any form or shape have caused a problem or penalty.

A few weeks ago after the florida update knocked my site clear out of the universe I thought it might be because I had over 30 "mini links" (not really 'hidden' technically but they were tiny images which basically nobody would have clicked on) that were pointing to various pages in my site. These were pages that otherwise would not have been indexed (they were javascript links), so I removed them. Nothing changed at all. A year ago when I built the site and placed the links they all got followed however and indexed.
