Re: Indexing website revisions

I recently revised my website by dropping frames and using tables, improving content to support my desired keywords and venturing into affiliate programs. I anxiously waited for Googlebot to visit and re-index my new pages.

One day while checking my stats, I noted that someone visited my page from Google by using some very critical keywords, so I proceeded to review my indexing. Sure enough my homepage was reflected in cache and my new content was being picked up. The part that was most rewarding was 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions from the most important keywords I could hope for. I was positioning right up there with some big companies.

The next day I checked to see if my other pages were now reflected, only to find that my homepage index had reverted BACK to the old page. My stats NEVER reflected Googlebot's visit either.

Why would my new page be indexed one day and then revert back to my old page the next day? I can help but think that a "paid" account noted my positioning and complained. Could someone please enlighten me here?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Barbara

Welcome to WW BarbC,

This is perfectly normal for Google. It has numerous data centers all of which might contain different indexes at any one time. The one you see at Google.com is randomly selected.

You need to give a new site, or new pages, at least 6 weeks after being crawled/indexed before you should be concerned about whether they are really indexed.

In addition fresh listings typically get a boost, so you may not do so well after things settle....again perfectly normal for Google.

Ranking high in Google on a long term basis is usually a very long process which often resembles a roller coaster ride for the first 12 months or more.
