So far so good, that "new" page got indexed within 48 hours too and got the fresh tag also indicating that the pages are up-to-date within Google.
My question is, a page that apparently has nothing to do with the targeted keyword ranks much higher than the page I recently added to its page content. How comes?
An example:
- We have a domain called www.domain.com and a html-page within that domain: www.domain.com/books.html which deals with the keyword "books", so the content of that page deals with the keyword books as well as it has links to it and so on. The content (text...) throughout also contains the word "exams" as well as the title-tag has. So far so good. Let's say this page ranks #7 on the first page of results google provides when entering "exams" into the search box (just leave the actual targeted keyword "books" alone here). Refering to aboves description I uploaded a new page (exams.html) which deals with the targeted keyword "exams" with the aim to rank better than #7. I created that page following all the rules of good SEO. The new page gets indexed but ranks worse although it has a more specific optimization than the books.html - one.
What's the deal?
Do I have to wait for the monthly google dance for a new ranking to take effect? Doesn't the "fresh tag" update the ranking algos too? Is that the reason why my new uploaded page gets an automatic PR of 0?
Btw, there's no incoming links from other pages to those described above so I don't see why the first one gets an advantage.
Thanks for any help as I'm slightly confused now...
