Why are there so many listing sites listed?

I would like to know why when you put in a search so many sites come up on the first page which are themselves listing sites and other search engine results. Surely Google doesn't want to redirect you to another listings site! Is is not aware of this post florida? Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks

I had the same problem earlier today when I was searching for a 'wholesale widget distributor.'

It sure let's you know that keyword stuffing and hidden text isn't dead and that the more keyword-stuffed links you have on your "directory" or "search results" page the higher your placement in the SERPs.

Guess Google figures that if it can't return results relevant enough to match what you're trying to find it will send you to somebody that can.

Arrgh! The more I look at the results the more disgusted I get.
