I'm just wondering if folks who have been badly hit post Florida excluding those with sites aimed at <place name> and travel, real estate, hotels etc have been sites written in English English or aimed at an English English market.
Just to clarify if your site is aimed at for example a US state, City or popular holiday destination please don't reply. What I'm interested in is the two nations divided by a single language syndrome.
You see there are 65 million English speakers in the UK and Ireland with probably another 50 million in Europe for which English English is a commonly used on-line second language. Plus there are 10s of millions in India, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Austrailia who use something much closer to English English than US English.
There is a big divergence in the language at a dictionary level but when you add in subtleties, nuances, synonyms and antinyms etc the language is an Ocean apart.
This is definately a problem for Google which means it is an even bigger problem for those of us who try to do our best using English English.
Best wishes
