If a directory in a site has been 404 for a month or two due to a naming error. Once that error is corrected, will G continue to spider it - or does G give up after so many attempts and not revisit?

Have not had this problem so I dodn't have a clue how to answer it...

Any thoughts?

I had that problem. When the error was corrected the page was indexed. But this of course does not prove that others will experience the same. Many factors may count when it is decided which pages to spider and which not. But of course I needn't tell you that. ;)

if your website is in directory, it means u are in dmoz. DMOZ system alerts the editors of such websites and they are sometimes delisted temporarily or maybe permanently and that effect shows with next update of DMOZ followed by next update of Google Directory and then being noticed by one.

I say it CAN happen.

google deepbot will spider it though it may need a fresh link to get freshbotted as freshbot seems to get into a habit. Also a google robot tag asking to follow and index may help.
My 2cents.
